Unsere Yoga-Philosophie

THE VVOO WHEEL

All classes will be informed by the 5 characteristics of the 5 Elements. VVOO means 5, following this pattern.

ALIGNMENT YOGA

Imagine feeling more confident in your Yoga postures and moving through your practice with effortless ease. Alignment Yoga at VVOO Yoga Studio Zürich is here to help you achieve just that. We offer a safe and effective way to enhance your alignment while building strength, body, and spatial awareness.

Alignment Yoga classes are thoughtfully sequenced to enhance both your physical and mental well-being. This practice emphasizes precise alignment principles that shape your physical structure. It cultivates a stable foundation for any Yoga class and Asana, guiding how you establish the conditions for your physical practice—and, in turn, how you set the conditions for your life.

Read on to learn more about Alignment Yoga and its benefits!

WHAT IS ALIGNMENT YOGA?

Rooted in the teachings of the renowned yogi B.K.S. Iyengar, Alignment Yoga is a practice that combines the principles of Hatha Yoga with a modern understanding of anatomy and biomechanics. This unique approach focuses on achieving precise anatomical alignment in every posture to enhance strength, flexibility, and mental clarity and deepen the connection between the body and the mind.

Unlike Flow Yoga, which typically involves continuous movement, the pace of Alignment Yoga is slower as it explores the poses with percision and dedication. This way, not only can you improve your overall posture, but also prevent injuries. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced Yoga instructor, Alignment Yoga’s intelligent nature offers a transformative experience that supports both physical and mental well-being. It provides a space for growth and insight, by the virtue of being rooted in Yoga philosophy and pulling from a deep understanding of Yoga anatomy.

HATHA YOGA

At VVOO Yoga Studio Zürich, Switzerland, we embrace Yoga's timeless tradition of fostering the interplay of mind, body, and spirit. Its transformative effects on both physical and mental wellbeing make it a highly beneficial practice for everyone, regardless of age and experience.

However, among the many forms of Yoga practice, Hatha Yoga stands out as a foundational practice that emphasizes balance and mindfulness through physical postures and controlled breathing. At VVOO Yoga Studio Zürich, our thoughtfully designed Dynamic Hatha Yoga sessions are tailored to enhance your wellbeing.

WHAT IS HATHA YOGA?

At VVOO, we offer Dynamic Hatha Yoga, a traditional form of Yoga that focuses on physical postures (asanas) and breath control (pranayama) to harmonize the body and the mind. The word “Hatha” is derived from the Sanskrit terms "ha" (sun) and "tha" (moon), symbolizing the union of opposites, balancing energies in the body to achieve inner peace and higher consciousness.

Rooted in ancient India, Hatha Yoga was developed to prepare the body and mind for spiritual enlightenment through practices like physical postures and breath control, as outlined in core texts such as the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Early yogis like Gorakhnath and Swatmarama emphasized the harmony of body, breath, and mind to achieve vitality and mental clarity.

Today, VVOO’s Dynamic Hatha Yoga classes preserve and adapt these principles, offering accessible sessions for practitioners of all levels, from beginners to advanced yogis.

KATONAH® YOGA

For centuries, many people have turned to Yoga as a holistic practice to improve their physical, mental, and spiritual health. Originating from India, Yoga comes in many styles, each with its own unique traits and functions. One example is Katonah Yoga®, a syncretic Hatha Yoga practice that integrates Daoist wisdom, the Five Element Theory from Chinese Medicine, sacred geometry, and metaphorical language to address the organs and glands.

At VVOO Yoga Studio Zürich, our Katonah Yoga® classes are thoughtfully designed and led by certified experts who genuinely care about your health and well-being, helping you build strength, balance, and inner harmony.

WHAT IS KATONAH® YOGA?

Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic Hatha Yoga practice that blends classical asana with Taoist philosophy, sacred geometry, and metaphor to cultivate balance, stability, and longevity. Developed by Nevine Michaan, it views the body as a dynamic structure where joints, organs, and glands work in harmony with breath and attunement. By integrating the Five Elements of Chinese Medicine—earth, water, fire, wood, and space—it aligns personal practice with nature’s rhythms, fostering resilience and adaptability.

At its core, Katonah Yoga® treats asana like origami, folding the body with precision to refine posture, enhance organ health, and optimize energy flow. This method emphasizes universal patterns, using repetition as a tool for self-awareness, longevity, and well-being.
